Annie Gentes’ book on the In-discipline of Design is now published! For more information look at the dedicated website: “Indisciplineofdesign”.
With examples coming from art, design, and engineering, she shows that the focus on technical functions and even social uses is not enough to come up with new designs. The Humanities as a reflective discipline on meaning making activities are at the core of design practices.
Her main contribution is therefore to demonstrate that the epistemology of design incorporates specific conceptive activities that are directly related to the Humanities. The Humanities’ methods of analysis, concepts, and theories about information, texts, media, composition, and dialogism, contribute to define the epistemology of design.
